The Light-Matter Interactions Unit (groups.oist.jp/light) in OIST, headed by Prof Síle Nic Chormaic, invites applications for a postdoctoral position. The focus will be on developing and implementing novel trapping techniques for laser-cooled atoms based on nano- and micro-optics, with emphasis on nanostructured optical nanofibers. Such systems have potential for quantum engineering using neutral atoms. The successful candidate must have previous experience in laser-cooling of alkalis or ion trapping and must have prior, peer-reviewed publications in this field.

We deal with precision spectroscopy of trapped and laser-cooled atomic and molecular ions. For this purpose, we develop novel technologies for the coherent manipulation of individual ions and their spectroscopy.
To support our team, we are looking for 3 candidates for a PhD degree to join us in the three different projects described below. The salary will be paid in accordance with remuneration group 13 TVöD Bund (85%).
The Centre for Quantum Dynamics undertakes experimental and theoretical studies of the dynamics (the motions, and energy and momentum exchanges) of systems of particles whose behaviour is governed by quantum mechanics. Specifically, the Centre activities include research in laser and collisions atomic physics, quantum optics, atom optics, quantum mechanics and quantum computing.
