TWO POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITIONS IN QUANTUM THERMODYNAMICS

Applications are being accepted for two postdoctoral research positions
in the Quantum Enabling System Technologies (QuEST) group (https://quest.ku.edu.tr/) of
Professor Ozgur E. Mustecaplioglu at Koc University. Both positions will primarily involve theoretical
studies of quantum thermodynamical properties of systems for specific applications.

Starting date: early 2018. Duration: 5 years.

The Virginia Tech Department of Mathematics anticipates a tenure-track opening in Quantum Information with a start date of August 10, 2018. The successful candidate will have a research program in the mathematical aspects of quantum information theory. Possible specialties include, but are not limited to, quantum information theory, quantum error correction, topological quantum computation, holography in quantum information, quantum control, many-body entanglement, or mathematics applicable to any of these topics.

Recent years are witnessing a renewed interest in thermodynamic applications at the nanoscale. Technological advances are leading to unprecedented levels of miniaturisation in the fabrication of microscopic engines capable of producing work. Recent experiments have produced engines built with only a few degrees of freedom, as for example a single electron transistor and the recently developed single ion engine. At the nanoscale, thermal fluctuations are quite strong and cannot be ignored any longer.

Quantum thermodynamics addresses the emergence of thermodynamic phenomena from quantum mechanics and aims to clarify to what extent the paradigms of thermodynamics apply in the quantum domain when quantum effects come into play, such as quantum correlations, quantum fluctuations, coherences, and entanglement. Quantum thermodynamics is closely linked with the theory of quantum measurement, as both require an open quantum systems approach.

We are looking for two professionals in the quantum optics or photonic sicences interested in developing nanophotonics and quantum systems to join our group efforts to explore quantum optics, integrated photonics and optical physics systems and their applications to information technologies.

Level: Ph.D.
Duration: 36 months.
Tuition Funding: Tec de Monterrey
Living Expenses Funding: CONACYT doctoral grant (~13,000 mxn per month, competitive in Mexico).
Requirements: GRE and TOEFL (or equivalent English proficiency test)

The group of Michael Kastoryano (mkastoryano.com) at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of Cologne invites applications for both PhD and Postdoctoral positions starting as soon as possible. The salary is based on the German TV-L E13 pay scale. Appointments will be for two years at 100% E13 for postdoctoral researchers and at 66% for three years for doctoral candidates.

The Schools of Engineering and Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University invite applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the junior level (Assistant or untenured Associate Professor) in the broadly defined field of quantum science and engineering with particular emphasis on all aspects of quantum computing and information. Priority will be given to the overall originality and promise of the candidate’s work over any particular specialization area or department affiliation.

The Stanford Institute for Theoretical Physics (SITP) invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar position in quantum information science. Areas of interest include core quantum information subjects such as algorithms, communication and fault-tolerance, in addition to connections with other branches of physics.

A curriculum vitae, publication list, statement of research interests and three letters of recommendation are required. Applications should be uploaded to academicjobsonline.org.
