A postgraduate student conference on Mathematical Techniques for Quantum Physics will take place in Nottingham (U.K.) from 7 - 9 November 2012.

The conference will emphasise quantum information, quantum gravity and quantum disordered systems. Respectively, the invited speakers from each area are:
*Nilanjana Datta (Cambridge),
*Samuel Braunstein (York), and
*Karoline Wiesner (Bristol).

This program will deal with quantum cryptography, quantum computing and quantum repeaters. The goal of this event is to introduce this exciting topic in a relaxed and stimulating atmosphere to a general audience of physicists and computer scientists with little or no background in practical quantum communications. Special emphasis will be placed on practical aspects of quantum communications, such as the implementation of Quantum Key distribution systems and quantum repeaters, as well as concrete steps towards a quantum computer.

China Airlines is proud to serve as travel sponsor of "Horizons of Quantum Physics" and offers to ALL registered attendees a 20% discount off web fare for all cabin classes. Further information about how to redeem the discount and the available departure airports will be made available on our website www.quantumhorizons.org within the next few days. Contact us through the website interface for any further question or need you might have.

Date: Tuesday 28th August 2012

Title: All entangled quantum states are nonlocal: equivalence between locality and separability in quantum theory

Abstract:
In this talk I will show how, by slightly modifying the rules of nonlocal games, one can prove that all entangled states violate local realism.

The applicant will work on an experimental project involving the production and characterization of single defects in nanodiamonds and single crystal diamond for quantum-enabled sensors. The focus will be to study a specific defect in diamond such as the nitrogen vacancy (NV) centre. The aim will be to improve diamond material for NV spin coherence properties optimization via chemical vapor deposition of diamond and nanodiamonds. The improved material will be used to implement practical magnetic field sensing at the nanoscale.
